Saya VS Fumito

Blood-C: The Last Dark

Action, Horror, Supernatural, Tragedy.
If you don't like any of these genres, then I suppose this movie isn't for you. But do give it a chance. -grins-  For starters, this is a rather bloody and gruesome movie. Well, not as bad as 'Another' though but still. Anyways, This shall be my first review/opinionated piece on an anime movie, so here goes nothing:

Introducing.....the protagonist:

Kisaragi Saya

Before - In the Anime
Voiced by Mizuki Nana, Saya is a cheerful, upbeat and a kind girl who's overly polite and clumsy. She trains under her father as a miko and is a very skilled sword fighter. Unbeknownst to most of the people, she has a duty to fight against Furukimono, monsters that inhabit the town, and her eyes turn eerie and demonic-like red in the while she kills those monsters.

After - In the Movie

Well at least in the anime that is. Her personality  transformed greatly and shockingly in the movie due to the events that happened in the course of the anime. In the movie, she's a kick-ass, bad-ass and cool character to boot. Just look at those eyes. Cool isn't it? Okay. Maybe it's just me...

Meet Nanahara Fumito, our contemptible lovely antagonist:

He's a son-of-a-gun with too much time on his hands. He's the reason for the state Saya's in now. In the movie, he's the chariman of the Japanese division of Seventh Heaven and the current head of Tower, a secret organisation.

There are many other characters in the movie as well, but heck, it'll be meaningless to explain them all here. I'll just provide the gist of the story, then i'll move on to my thoughts. Along the way, i might not be able to control my feelings for...certain characters...so pardon me.

Anyways. SIRRUT. It's a organisation, rebelling against Fumito and his "Youth Ordiance Bill" (enforcement of curfews for minors and regulate the use of internet) to fight for their freedom and such. While using the internet as a weapon to dig information about Fumito, they discovered "Tower", a secret organisation in which that son-of-a he engaged in human experiments.

This movie circles around Saya's quest of vengeance as she works with SIRRUT to take down/kill Fumito and her interactions with Mana, a brilliant hacker, as Saya slowly warms up to her despite her cold exterior and attitude towards everyone in the group at the beginning, with Mana hiding a secret of her own as well.

PLOT TWIST

Well, there were quite a few plot twists but the final plot twist makes people go, "Well, I should've known."
I could pretty much guess that particular plot twist but it was still interesting to see it being executed out in the movie.

AND who would've known, that Fumito actually...

Now, there is a particular plot twist about Mana's father that....

FEELINGS/OPINIONS

Overall, I liked this anime movie. It was filled with action, blood and darkness and though the story-line is simple, it engages the audience, made my heart go all out to Saya as she battles her way to Fumito. And guess what? WATANUKI MADE A CAMEO APPEARANCE. Okay. You can just ignore that. Anyways. Saya was just brilliant. Like awesomely brilliant. I love her character here, so much more compared to the anime. Though she's outwardly cold and appears merciless, she's actually a kind and heart-warming person underneath that tough shell. Her trauma and her past experience were what crafted the personality she has now, not being able to trust people easily, often isolating herself. And I love her serious and cool eyes. I mean, it's so beautiful. In my opinion anyway.

Mana was a little unexpected though. I thought she'd be the "weak" character who follows the main character around like a glue, the damsel in distress type of girl. But oh, was i wrong. She's none of that. In fact, her abilities are like wow and she too, has her emotional scars.

I thought that the characters' personality and thoughts were executed nicely and fittingly. I wished I'd known more about what-was-her-name-again-that-cute-girl-who-is-fond-of-Mana-and-is-a-brilliant-hacker. I really wanted to know how her relationship with Mana developed.

Not only that, i wished i could've seen more of Mana and Saya's growing friendship and of course, Saya telling Mana about the truth about her father. I mean, the drama here would've been great. Too bad Mana never found out about the truth. Poor Saya, who has to hold the burden of this truth.

All in all...

Well, if you can't stand blood, you might wanna take the back seat for now. I'd say it's a pretty good movie to watch, especially if you've watched Blood-C. I mean, look at the Saya then and the Saya now. Give it a try if you've watched the anime. If not, well, you can still watch it; not knowing the story prior hand shouldn't affect your capability of enjoying this anime movie.

And I shall end of with a couple of scenes from the movie:

That-what-was-her-name-again-cute-girl
Creepy Monster
That's Mana

WATANUKI!!!!!!
